What is ATS-friendly resume?

An ATS-friendly resume is a resume that an applicant tracking system can read correctly: plain structure, standard headings, real text and the keywords of the role.

Fancy columns, text inside images, icons for skills and unusual headings can make an ATS read your resume wrongly or skip parts of it.

A quick checklist:

  • one column, standard section names (Summary, Experience, Skills, Education)
  • skills written out in words that match the job description
  • dates and job titles in a consistent format
  • saved as PDF or DOCX, with no text inside images

Run yours through the ATS resume checker and the plain text converter.
