Questions, answered

Why use the same handle on every platform?
People search for you by one name. When your GitHub, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, X, Facebook, Medium, Hashnode and Substack all use the same handle, followers and brands find the same you everywhere and your name becomes a brand.
How does the checker know a handle is free?
It opens the public profile address of the handle without signing in. A "page not found" answer means nobody uses it. GitHub, YouTube, X, Medium, Hashnode and Substack are checked automatically. LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook hide the answer from servers, so the tool opens the page for you next to a picture of what a free handle looks like.
Is a "not found" page a 100 percent guarantee?
Almost. A deactivated account can still hold a name, and Facebook shows "content isn't available" for private profiles too. The final proof is the username box in each platform's settings: if it accepts your handle, it is yours.
Do I need to create new accounts?
No. Keep your existing accounts and change only the username or handle in settings. Your followers, posts and history stay. Never delete an account just to change its name.
Which characters work everywhere?
Lowercase letters and digits, 5 to 15 characters, starting with a letter. X allows at most 15 characters and Facebook needs at least 5; dots, dashes and underscores are not accepted everywhere, so the ideas avoid them.
Is it free? What happens to my details?
Yes, free. We use your email to send your brand kit and resume link, and tips only if you tick the box. You can unsubscribe from any tips email in one click.
