FAQ

Questions about the URL Encoder and Decoder

What is the difference between Encode and Encode component?

Encode uses encodeURI and leaves URL structure characters like : / ? & = intact. Encode component uses encodeURIComponent and escapes those too, which is what you want for one parameter value.

Why does a space become %20 and not a plus sign?

Both buttons follow the URL standard and use %20. The plus sign for spaces only comes from HTML form encoding.

Why does Decode show an error?

Decoding fails when the text has a percent sign not followed by two valid hex digits, such as a literal 50%. Encode that percent sign as %25 first.

Is the URL Encoder and Decoder free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not uploaded. You only sign in if you want to email a result to yourself or save it to your CareerByteCode profile.
