FAQ

Questions about the Password Generator

How many characters should a strong password have?

Longer is better: with all four character sets, 20 characters gives about 128 bits of entropy, far beyond what offline guessing can reach. The tool turns green at 80 bits or more.

Is a browser password generator truly random?

This one uses the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues), the same secure random source browsers use for encryption keys, not Math.random.

Why avoid ambiguous characters in a password?

Characters like 0 and O or l and 1 are easy to misread when a password is typed by hand or read aloud. Removing them trims the pool slightly but saves login errors.

Is the Password Generator free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not uploaded. You only sign in if you want to email a result to yourself or save it to your CareerByteCode profile.
