FAQ

Questions about the SQL Formatter

Which SQL keywords start a new line?

SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, HAVING, LIMIT, the JOIN variants, UNION, INSERT INTO, VALUES, UPDATE, SET and DELETE FROM. AND, OR and ON are indented under their clause.

Does the SQL formatter check my query for errors?

No. It only reformats text; it does not parse or run the query, so syntax errors pass through unchanged.

Will it change words inside string literals?

It can. Keywords are matched as whole words, so a quoted value containing a word like from or and may be moved to a new line or uppercased. Check queries with such strings after formatting.

Is the SQL Formatter free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not uploaded. You only sign in if you want to email a result to yourself or save it to your CareerByteCode profile.
