FAQ

Questions about the Tool Schema Builder

What is a function calling schema?

It is a JSON description of a tool: its name, what it does and its parameters as a JSON Schema object. The model uses it to decide when to call the tool and with which arguments.

How do I mark a parameter as required?

Put required (or anything starting with req) in the fourth column of its line. Leave it empty to make the parameter optional.

Why does the tool description matter?

The model chooses tools mostly from the name and description, so a specific description such as Get current weather for a city leads to more accurate calls.

Is the Tool Schema Builder free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not uploaded. You only sign in if you want to email a result to yourself or save it to your CareerByteCode profile.
