How to use the TDS Calculator

  1. Choose A payment or My salary.
  2. For a payment, pick its nature; the rate and the limit fill in and can be edited.
  3. Enter the amount and what was paid to the same person earlier in the year, and whether they gave a PAN.
  4. Read the TDS, the net amount to pay and the limit used.

An example, step by step

Professional fees of Rs 60,000 under section 194J, payee has a PAN, nothing paid earlier this year

TDS Rs 6,000 at 10 percent (the Rs 50,000 yearly limit is crossed) and Rs 54,000 to pay; on a Rs 15,00,000 salary in the new regime the TDS is Rs 8,125 a month

Questions about the TDS Calculator

What is the TDS rate on professional fees?

10 percent under section 194J once the payments to one person cross Rs 50,000 in the year (2 percent for technical services). Verify the current limits with your CA.

What if the payee has no PAN?

TDS is generally 20 percent, or the normal rate if that is higher. The calculator applies this when you untick the PAN box.

When must TDS be deposited?

By the 7th of the next month, and by 30 April for March. TDS on property and on rent under 194-IB is paid within 30 days of the month end.

Is the TDS Calculator free and private?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser, so what you type is not uploaded. You only sign in if you want to email a result to yourself or save it to your CareerByteCode profile.
